How to close the season right
When the end of the season approaches, along with that also the question of how to care for your skis and snowboard after the last run and how to best store your equipment. With our tips, you’ll enjoy your gear just as much next winter.
Clean your gear from mud, grass, and alcohol residue from your season closing. Let your equipment dry completely before storing it in your bag to prevent rust on the bindings or edges.
Inspect your gear closely for damage like hairline cracks, broken edges, or open spots in the base that could let water into the wood core. Take advantage of end-of-season sales to be ready for the next season.
Small dents and scratches can usually be easily repaired with cold wax. With a bit of experience, you can also fix larger scratches and holes with hot wax. A separate post on that will follow.
Nothing beats a professional edge sharpening, but with an edge sharpener, you can easily sharpen your edges. We use the adjustable edge sharpener from TOKO.
There are several ways to wax your gear, from hot wax to cold/liquid wax. We prefer the liquid synthetic wax from GIGAGLIDE. It’s super easy to apply and offers great glide. It can also be applied spontaneously on the mountain.
Release the pressure from your bindings/springs. You can even remove the bindings from your snowboard to dry it completely and store it separately. Don’t loose your screws!
Clean your avalanche beacon (LVS) thoroughly. The most important thing is to remove the batteries. There’s nothing worse than leaking batteries in your LVS.
Completely empty your backpack. Remove all stickers, sunscreen, trash and old slope picnics. Vacuum out the last crumbs from the season’s snacks.
After cleaning and repacking your backpack, you need to disconnect the cartridge from the trigger unit.
